Biodex, meten van spierkracht spiermassa

De Biodex is een meetinstrument dat wordt gebruikt om spierkracht objectief te meten. Het apparaat maakt gebruik van een dynamometer, waarmee de kracht van specifieke spiergroepen nauwkeurig kan worden bepaald. Met name de kracht van de grote spiergroepen in het bovenbeen wordt vaak gemeten, omdat deze een goede indicatie geeft van de algehele spierfunctie.

Spierkracht is een belangrijke parameter voor gezondheid. Onderzoek laat zien dat spierkracht een betere voorspeller is van gezondheid en overleving dan spiermassa alleen.

Spiercontracties zijn essentieel bij de afbraak van visceraal vet een mechanisme dat loopt via de productie van specifieke spierhormonen.

De Biodex maakt het mogelijk om verschillen in kracht tussen spiergroepen en tussen linker- en rechterzijde in kaart te brengen. Dit kan helpen bij het identificeren van zwakke schakels en het gericht verbeteren van spierfunctie.

Daarnaast kan de Biodex worden gebruikt om veranderingen in spierkracht in de tijd te volgen, bijvoorbeeld als effect van training.

In combinatie met metingen van visceraal vet geeft de Biodex inzicht in zowel de oorzaak van ziekte als de mogelijkheden om deze te beïnvloeden.

Het meten van spierkracht is daarmee een belangrijk onderdeel van een complete beoordeling van lichaamssamenstelling en gezondheid.
